Prewriting.

 

Starting a paper is often the hardest part. Blank pages act as a source of mocking anxiety, and the initial step of generating concrete ideas and a general organizational structure can seem almost impossible. Undergraduates with learning differences may especially struggle with the prewriting stage. Open-ended prompts make it difficult to know where to start, and the process of translating ideas into words can be overwhelmingly arduous. However, utilizing a variety of strategies that cater to individual learning styles (and that make use of available assistive technologies!) can make the brainstorming process more than manageable.
